Eric Yeboah, a farmer at Wamanafo near Wamfie in Dormaa-East District, has been remanded by the Dormaa Circuit Court for allegedly stabbing a fellow young man, Kwaku Dominic, to death during a record dance.
His plea was not taken.
Police Chief Inspector Andrews Augustine Duodu told the court presided by Mr Alexander Osei Tutu that the complainant in the case is a businessman and an Assembly Member for Wamanafo while Yeboah is a
farmer.
He said on April 18, a popular drinking spot, “The Point”, at Wamanafo organised a record dance overnight, during which Yeboah was seen engaged in a discussion with the deceased outside the bar.
Chief Inspector Duodu said as the discussion progressed between the two, Yeboah suddenly pulled a knife and stabbed the deceased in the neck inflicting a deep cut.
He said shouts from the victim drew a number of people to the scene, who found him reeling in a pool of blood.
Prosecution said he was quickly rushed to the Presbyterian Hospital at Dormaa-Ahenkro but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
He said Yeboah bolted from the town but the Assembly Member and unit committee members organised a search party who arrested him from his hide-out in a nearby bush.
The same court remanded Yaaba Dominic, a suspected rapist into prison custody for two weeks and instructed the police to forward a copy of the docket on the case to the Attorney-General’s Department
for advice.
The suspect’s plea was not taken.
Inspector Lartey told the court presided over by Mr Osei Tutu that the suspect was a night watchman at Suromani, a farming community near Dormaa-Ahenkro where the victim also lived.
He said at about 2100 hours on March 15, Yaaba sent the victim to buy him cigarettes from a nearby shop.
Prosecution said when the girl returned with the cigarettes, Yaaba grabbed her and dragged her into his bedroom where he forcibly had sex with her.
Inspector Lartey said a witness in the case, Ms Matilda Adopoga, who shared the same bedroom with the victim, said she saw the victim emerge from the suspect’s bedroom in tears.
He said when a report was made to the police, the victim was issued with medical form to attend the hospital while the suspect was apprehended on April 4 and charged with the offence.
