A prophecy about the world coming to an end on Saturday has gained currency around the world with less than 24 hours to the supposed Apocalypse.
The 21st May doomsday prophecy is attributed to Harold Camping, founder of Family Radio Worldwide.
His organization has sponsored several billboards which are being used to propagate the end-time prophecy.
Here in Ghana, there is one located at the Tetteh-Quarshie Interchange with the message: “The end of the world is almost here; Holy God will bring judgement Day on May 21st, 2011.”
But some religious leaders Joy News has been speaking to have discounted the prophecy.
Reverend Ebenezer Obodai of Action Chapel International says the prophecy is not scriptural.
“Our measure and our standard is the scriptures. If you are a Christian, our standard of measure is the Bible; it doesn’t matter what anybody says,” he says.
Reverend Gabriel Ansah, an Eschatologist and a regular preacher on Adom FM also disproved it.
“If you know the record of Harold, he predicted the end of the world in 1994 which never occurred. Apocalyptic date setting is prophetically wrong,” he said.
A Muslim cleric who does not also believe the prophecy says “nobody knows it.”
Elsewhere around the world there are people who are said to be selling their property ahead of the apocalypse.
Here in Accra, some residents Joy News has been speaking to did not even know about the so-called Apocalyptic prophesy.
