The Ghana Football Association has confirmed holding talks with national team goalkeeper Richard Kingson to rescind his decision to quit after Friday’s clash against Congo.
The 33-year-old angrily told a reporter after Tuesday’s training session in Accra he would retire from the Black Stars to end the incessant verbal attacks by local fans.
The former Blackpool gloves man was constantly jeered by some fans during the five-day session which began last Thursday at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium.
Kingson was prevented from chasing a fan who had used an offensive language on him after allowing in a goal in a five-aside practice match.
“We have talked to him and he has calmed down a bit so it’s okay for now. It’s a trivial issue and we don’t think it can affect the team ahead of the match. It’s unfortunate we are talking about this two days to the match,” Ghana FA vice-president Fred Pappoe told Accra-based Happy FM.
Meanwhile the team has arrived in Kumasi for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations Group I return leg qualifier.
