The Agona West Municipal National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has provided temporal accommodation for hundreds of stranded residents at Agona Nyarkrom in the Central Region.The move follows report of over two thousand (2000) houses damaged by floods from heavy downpour, Saturday evening.The NADMO coordinator Raymond E.K Tsotsomey said the affected victims are not ready to go home for fear that they may be carried away by the floods.He added that roads were still covered by the floods making vehicular transport impossible.The Public Relations Officer of Agona West Municipal Assembly Kwesi Dawood told Adom News that a disaster volunteer group they activated gave warning signals earlier to residents to vacate their buildings because it was not the first time for such an occurrence.According to him, those who refused to pay attention to the warning signals lost their properties.The police and the fire service have been directed to provide security while they assess the situation further.In a related development, 821 residents in Tarkwa Nsuaem in the Western Region were displaced by rains between January and March this year.The statistics also show that about 221 houses have also been damaged.Yesterday a heavy downpour in the area also destroyed houses and properties worth thousands of cedis and left two people, a man and a woman dead.The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Coordinator for NADMO, Mr. Kenneth Mensah confirmed the death to Adom News.According to him, one of the dead bodies has been found while the other is still missing.Mr. Mensah said investigation conducted by his outfit indicated that the major cause of disaster in some part of the municipality was due to lack of maintenance of buildings.He noted that since Tarkwa and its surroundings experience a lot of rainfall, the citizens should do well to renovate their building at least every 2 years or when the need arises to avoid disasters.Maame Esi Nyamekye Thompson/Adom News
