The AMA is expected to appear in court today over charges of contempt filed against it by the Advertisers Association of Ghana.
The two have been sparring for months now over the refusal of the AAG to pay an over-400 percent increase in advertising permit fees for 2010.
The AAG is accusing the AMA of flouting a court order restraining them from pulling down billboards of its members after it threatened to demolish the structures.
The Executive Secretary of the Advertisers Association of Ghana, Francis Dadzie said the AAG had filed for injunction restraining the AMA from arbitrarily pulling down the billboards of clients as well as enforcing new rates considered too exorbitant and fixed in violation of the law.
While the case is still in court, the AMA, according to the Executive Secretary, went ahead to remove some billboards necessitating the contempt charge.
“In the second case, a member of our association, Lead Advertising, is in court with the AMA over the procedure they used in [entering into a certain contract]. It is the contention that they (AMA) did not follow the Public Procurement Law in entering into deal. That is also before before the courts,” Mr Dadzie stated.
