A son of the late High Court Judge accused by lawyer Chris Ackumey of taking a GHS500.00 bribe is incensed over the allegation and has vowed to clear his late father’s name. Jonah Abanga insists his father had proven beyond every reasonable doubt that he was not corrupt and wondered why anybody would accuse him after his death. His father, Andrew Abanga has been cited by Chris Ackumey, a leading lawyer with the National Democratic Congress, as one of the corrupt judges in the judiciary. Ackumey in a vehement defence of the assertion that corruption in the Judiciary was no longer a perception but a reality, claimed to have raised the GHS500.00 bribe money which was paid to registrar in the presence of four others for onward submission to the late Judge Abanga while he lived. The NDC lawyer has dared the Judicial Council to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegation, insisting it is incriminating and a palpable exposure of a corrupt judicial system. His allegations have ruffled the nerves of the family of the late Judge who have vowed to use every means possible to clear the name of their father. Jonah Abanga told Joy News’ Paa Kwesi Asare his father was highly incorruptible. He said his father had on numerous occasions turned away people who brought him gifts and bribes meant to corrupt him. He does not see his father collecting a GHS500.00 bribe from any person. He said his father left an old rickety corolla vehicle as inheritance for his family, obviously not a sign of a rich, corrupt judge, he argued. Jonah Abanga expressed worry over the eternal damnation the allegation will have on his family’s reputation. He said he will follow through with the Judicial Council to ensure that justice is done to the baseless allegation.
