Schools affected by the recent rainstorm in the Ashanti Region face the possibility of being shut down for maintenance, an official has said.
The schools which include Jamasi SDA, LA Experimental, and Adu Gyamfi senior high school (SHS) all in the Sekyere South District would go through various stages of repairs.
District Educational Director, Jocelyn Asante Boamah told Joy News they are still assessing the situation to design a holistic solution to the problem.
She said they are in talks with the District Assembly leadership to come to their aid in fixing the badgered buildings.
She ruled out the use of makeshift structures to temporarily accommodate the students until the problems are addressed.
“It will be difficult to say another alternative is to get ten [because] even with the roofs that has been nailed it is difficult for it to withstand the rain,” she argued.
Madam Asante Boamah, however, said they would communicate with teachers to provide some remedial teaching to the students in the event schools are closed down.
Presiding Member of Sekyere South District Assembly, Michael Opoku promised to look into the coffers of the Assembly to buy some relief items to residents.
He also said they would meet with educational authorities to consider the best way to address the issue.
