The elders of the Asene Dzaase, principal king makers in the Ga State have dissociated themselves from the nomination and installation of Nii Tackie Adama Latse II.One of the elders, Amarkai Amarteifio at a press conference in Accra accused the Dzaasetse, Nii Amarkai III of arbitrarily sanctioning the installation of the new king. The Dzaasetse at the outdooring ceremony of the new king proclaimed Nii Adama Latse II as the rightful heir to the Ga throne.According to him, Nii Tackie Tawiah III, the king, who until Sunday's installation is regarded, albeit with some controversy, as the Ga King, has no place in the Ga Stool, at least for now.He among other statements destooled some Ga sub Chiefs, including the Sempe Mantse who he accused of embezzling Ga State funds. He also directed commercial drivers under the Ghana Private Road Transport Union to, as a matter of urgency, begin the payment of tolls to him- a directive which has been rubbished by the chairman of the GPRTU and the Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly. His utterances during the outdooring ceremony have come under heavy criticism. On Thursday the elders of the Asene Dzaase condemned the action by Nii Amarkai III.Meanwhile, Amarkai Amarteifio told press men even though he (Nii Amarkai III) is the legitimate acting head of the Asene family, his action was reprehensible.“The role that Nii Amarkai III played over the weekend was not sanctioned by the Dzaase of Asene. It was not authorized; it was not mandated. It was premature and has the potential of preempting matters pending the judicial body. It has the potential of undermining the process of adjudication to determine who is Ga Mantse.”“The Dzaase of Asene cannot sit down and accept this,” he added. He said it is neither in the interest of the Ga State nor in anybody’s interest for the position of the Dzaasetse to be compromised.Amarkai Amarteifio said the Dzaase will abide by the ruling of the Ga Traditional Council.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
