The Ghana League Club Association has slammed a 10,000 Ghana cedis fine on Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
The Association also handed a one year ban from all GHALCA sanctioned games to the Porcupine Warriors for boycotting the medal ceremony of the President’s Cup on July 1.
Kotoko players walked-off the pitch and did not receive their medals in protest over what they claim were dodgy referring decisions during the penalty shoot-out against Berekum Chelsea in the President’s Cup.
The game ended 2-2 in regulation time and proceeded to the penalty shoot-out where referee Mohammed Awal called for a replay of two penalty kicks after the Kotoko goal keeper moved in front of the goal-line before the kicks were taken.
Chelsea then converted the two kicks and eventually beat the Porcupine Warriors 7-6 on the shoot-out and were crowned as champions of the President's Cup.
This did not go down well with the Kotoko players who stormed into the dressing room never to return for their medals.
GHALCA decided to take punitive measures against the Kumasi based club.
But an official of Kumasi Asante Kotoko has slammed the decision by GHALCA.
Administrative Secretary of the club Ben Nti has questioned the locus of GHALCA to impose such sanctions on the club.
He told Joy Sports on Tuesday “Football is not run with sentiments. We should use our head in running football and not be sentimental. Not that you have something against Kotoko, he added.”
He described the decision as “nonsensical” insisting it is “chaff” and “will not fly”.
