The Chief Justice has directed the Commercial Courts in Accra and Kumasi to sit during this year's legal vacation which commences on August 1 and ends on September 30.A statement signed by the Judicial Secretary, Alex B. Poku-Acheampong, said the Mrs Georgina Wood arrived at the decision following requests from the business community for the Commercial Courts to hear their cases during the legal vacation, mindful of the economic and financial implications on their businesses, with reference to interest rates on their transactions.“In so doing, the Judiciary will be working to reduce the backlog of cases pending at the Commercial Courts and at the same time give critical support to the Government's agenda to market Ghana as a business-friendly destination, build confidence in the domestic economy, enhance foreign direct investment and improve the general business climate of the country.”The statement said in this regard, Judges in the Commercial Courts will not take their legal vacation en bloc. The Chief Justice has therefore urged the Bar and the general public who have cases pending, as well as their witnesses, to support this drive and cooperate with the Judiciary to attain the noble objectives that underpin the initiative.Story by Myjoyonline.com
