Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, gave the assurance that government would continue to deepen the decentralization process throughout the country.
He said entrenching grassroots democracy was one of the ways the government would employ to achieve the decentralization programme.
Vice President Mahama said this when he symbolically presented 170 Nissan Patrol four-wheel vehicles and 6,000 motorbikes to all the metropolitan, municipal and district Assemblies in the country.
This is the first time the central government had distributed motorbikes to the assemblies in the country.
Vice President Mahama who called on them to use the vehicles in inspecting and monitoring all development projects in their areas, promised that the government would continue to provide capacity building for staff of various assemblies to make Ghana a model of democracy.
Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, who received the vehicles, gave the assurance that they would enhance their movement and increase productivity at all levels.
He said all the vehicles were covered with comprehensive insurance.
