More people have been rendered homeless in the Atiwa district of the Eastern Region following an overnight rain. About eight communities in the district were flooded last week after the Birim River broke its banks. Those affected say their conditions have worsened following torrential rainfall last night. One of the affected residents told Joy News they have no place to lay their heads. “As I am talking it is raining. There was a big flood. There is no food stuffs. Nothing,” he lamented. He complained of feet dragging by officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation who he said were yet to come to their aid. “We are suffering too much because of the rain,” he added. The District Chief Executive of Atiwa, Emannuel Atta Twum said the condition is not as bad as was claimed to be. He conceded though that the floods still persist on some roads and farms but the water level has gone down. “We have a piece of good news; those farmers trapped behind flood waters have been evacuated this afternoon,” he announced. He said his outfit was yet to reach some of the communities because some of the roads have been blocked by the flood.
