The Osu Magistrate District Court was on Thursday the scene of an interesting drama after National Security operatives stormed the court precincts to arrest three of four drugs suspects granted bail. The four suspects, Kelvin Boateng, Daniel Gyabaah, Eric Owusu Manu and Frank Bruno Pappoe, according to court sources, were arrested at the Kotoka International Airport about a month ago under suspicion they deal in narcotics.Three of the suspects, Daniel Gyabaah, Eric Owusu Manu and Frank Bruno Pappoe had been granted bail last week. Bail was set at GHS10,000 each and they were to report to the court and the BNI once a week. They were also to submit their passports.Kelvin Boateng was however refused bail.Court sources told Myjoyonline.com that for reasons not very clear to the court, the BNI kept the suspects in their custody until their lawyers notified the court and were subsequently cleared to go home Thursday. But just when they stepped out and joined their counsel in their cars to leave the court precincts, they were intercepted right in front of the courtroom by officers of the Bureau of National Investigations. The BNI alleged that they were involved in another case, however the BNI would not disclose the case. The scuffle that ensued brought Her Honour Justice Ellen Anokye out and face to face with the security operatives. The BNI operatives, in their efforts to intercept the suspects, allegedly drove one of their cars into that of a counsel of the accused, Senanu Ashiagbor, a BMW with registration number GS 312-10, and dented the bonnet. The judge later ordered the arrest of a driver of the BNI for rude behaviour. The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Rose Bio Atinga, who led a police reinforcement to the court entered into a meeting with the Judge, Counsel for the accused, Evans Anabah and Robertson Kpatsa as well as the BNI.After several minutes behind close doors, the trial judge disclosed after the meeting that she had agreed to release the suspects, after consulting with the Chief Justice, to the Regional Police Commander to be under her custody till further notice. The suspects were whisked away by the Police after that conclusion.Source: Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
