Two teenagers, who allegedly broke into a container shop and made away with items valued at GH¢1,890.00, have appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court.
Jonathan Kusi, 16, and Osei Kofi, 18, are charged with causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing.
Their accomplices, Kwame Kyere and one Red, are on the run.
Jonathan was referred to the juvenile court to decide his punishment after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
Osei, however, denied the charges and was remanded into police custody to assist in further investigations.
Police Inspector Philip Yao Bebli told the court, presided over by Justice Richard Mac Kogyapwah that, the complainant, Eric Akoto, is a trader and deals in car batteries at Kronum, a suburb of Kumasi.
Jonathan and Osei live at Heman New Site in the Kwabre District.
On July 18, at about 0300 hours, the two together with the other accomplices armed themselves with a pinch bar, hammer, pliers, screw driver, master car key, knife and super glue went on a stealing spree at Kronum.
They succeeded in breaking into the complainant’s container shop and stole 10 of his car batteries, two gallons of diesel, MTN, Vodafone and Airtel scratch cards and two cell phones.
The prosecution said the gang also damaged six padlocks, door and electric wires.
A week after the crime, Jonathan was arrested by the Neighbourhood Watch Committee, as the gang prepared to launch another operation.
Police Inspector Bebli said during questioning he admitted breaking into the shop with the others and led them to arrest Osei, Kyere and Red managed to slip through.
