The Tema Police is looking for Phyllis Adjeley, 35, an unemployed woman, for allegedly stabbing Doreen Ashitey, 41, several times with a broken bottle without any provocation at a funeral in Tema-Newtown.
The swift intervention by some people at the scene, who rushed the victim to the Tema General Hospital for treatment, saved her life.
Narrating the bizarre incident to the press, ASP Rebecca Nyamah, Tema Regional Co-ordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, (DOVVSU), said the suspect, Adjeley, and the victim, Doreen, who live at Teshie, attended a funeral at Tema-Newtown.
She said after the deceased had been carried away for burial, the victim and two friends went to a bar nearby to have some drinks.
The DOVVSU co-ordinator said after the refreshment, Doreen and her friends went to bid their bereaved colleague, Salormey, farewell, but Adjeley who was standing by and drinking Guinness attacked Doreen and in the process pushed her into the ground.
Before Doreen could get on her feet, Adjeley who had broken the Guinness bottle was on her stabbing her many times on the head, arms and face.
The DOVVSU co-ordinator said stabs aimed at her chest and stomach area tore parts of her cloth but, fortunately, did not touch her body.
People around rushed Doreen, who was bleeding profusely, to the Tema Port Clinic at Community One, but due to the severity of the wounds, she was referred to the Tema General Hospital where she was admitted for three days.
Adjeley has since been on the run.
ASP Nyamah said Adjeley is believed to be hiding in parts of Accra.
