The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DVVSU) in the Central Region are looking for a woman who allegedly locked up her 8-year-old twin daughters in the room from morning to evening without food.
The region’s DOVVSU director says the woman has denied the children access to education since infancy and exposed them to harm.
Joy News’ Central Regional correspondent Richard Kojo Nyarko reports that the woman’s neighbour who happens to be a journalist, Mary Aba Bawa, alerted the police who consequently broke into the woman’s room to save the girls.
He said the father of the children who is 74 years old reported at the offices of the DOVVSU to give his side of the story.
The old man is said to have suffered a series of beatings at the hands of his wife (who is known to be violent) which resulted in the separation of the couple.
In a related development, a mother of a set of quadruplets in Kwasimintim in the Western Region is also reported to be meting out inhuman treatments to her children.
She has mothered seven children including the quadruplets.
Joy News’ correspondent Kwaku Owusu Peprah reported that the unemployed woman locks up the children and goes out to beg for alms or uses them to beg for alms on other days when the conditions get tough.
They are said to be living in a dilapidated place.
According to Kwaku Owusu Peprah, the woman said she has no other option but to beg for alms as she is unable to make ends meet to look after her large family.
The social welfare department in the region is therefore considering looking for a better place for the children.
