Workers at the Chronicle news paper have been given a new lease of life after their offices were opened again for business.
The office was sealed off on Tuesday. This was to execute a high court judgment against the paper for defaming former Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies.
It was fined GHS 500,000 and asked to pay further costs of GHS 10,000.
The Chronicle had published in 2009 that Professor Kaku Sagary Nokoe attempted to buy a hostel facility in Tamale refurbished for the CAN 2008 tournament.
The facility, was to be handed over to the UDS after the event.
In an interview with Joy News’ Cyrus deGraft-Johnson on Thursday, the editor of the newspaper, Ebo Quansah said the paper admits it failed to do due diligence on the story.
Lawyer for the former UDS Vice Chancellor, Sagary Nokoe, says his client is ready to discuss a mutually beneficial means to enforce the judgment in spite of a notice of appeal.
“We are prepared for settlement. It is good we have recourse to matters other than enforcement of court judgement, as long as there is settlement that is okay. But we are prepared to go into settlement. I don’t feel comfortable with Chronicle finding itself in this situation. On the other hand we are upset by the publication,” he said.
