The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Right Rev Francis Amenu, has disclosed that there are employment opportunities in the church and asked the youth to take advantage of them.
“Some of the church members have the expertise to mentor the youth to develop their professional careers and all the youth have to do is to humble themselves for apprenticeship to become better people,” he said.
Speaking with the Ghanaian Times on the sidelines at the commissioning of Ministerial Probationers for the church at the Lorenz Wolff Church in Tema, he said the days when the youth completed school and waited for either the state or the private institutions to employ them were over and urged them to wake up to the challenge and motivate themselves.
Right Rev. Amenu said: “as much as the youth attend the church for spiritual upliftment, it is also important that those who are not employed use the church as a platform to create employment opportunities for themselves”.
He stressed that some churches had vast lands which could be used for agriculture and advised the youth to form special farming groups and be allocated plots to go into farming.
The Moderator went further that the various musical instruments used by the churches, could be used to train the youth to become good musicians and professionals and even a living for it.
He urged the churches and non-governmental organisations to collaborate with government in social development programmes to help in the upliftment of the society, saying government alone cannot do it all.”
Rt. Rev. Amenu, said though the churches could be credited for their assistance in the area of education, agriculture and encouragement, but the rural and urban areas to contribute to nation building, they could still do more for the nation “to experience the better Ghana we are all looking for.”
He asked churches to engage the services of the professionals in their congregation on their developmental projects, explaining that it would make them feel appreciated.
