Fisherman in the Oguaa traditional area over the weekend expressed their gratitude to the government for the regular and prompt supply of pre-mix fuel to the area.
The fishermen were particularly happy that they were receiving the fuel during the main fishing season and said it would be of great benefit to them.
Mr Samuel Quainoo, Vice Chairman of the Canoe Fishermen Association of the Cape Coast Landing beach, who expressed the appreciation in an interview with the GNA at Brofoyedru a suburb of Cape Coast, said within the week they had received two tanker loads of fuel and that for the past eight months there has been a regular supply of the fuel.
He said profits accrued from the sale of the pre-mix fuel was normally used to execute a project of their choice and that so far the pre-mix committee in Cape Coast had used part of the profit to establish a shed where the pre-mix is sold.
He said they have also been able to purchase an outboard motor which they use for rescue purposes and that plans were far advanced to build a community clinic along the beach near the Cape Coast castle.
He said more than five hundred thousand blocks have been moulded for the project and that before the end of the year the sod would be cut for the construction work to begin on the clinic.
Mr Quainoo said they have also been able to prevent fishermen from using light and small nets for fishing in most of the fishing communities in the Oguaa traditional area and called on government to assist them purchase about 40 horse power out-board motors to enhance their work.
He advised the fishermen not to go back to the use of light and undersized fishing nets, warning that anyone caught would be severely punished.
