The Minority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has said that the Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing that went to Abu Dhabi to inspect housing projects of the STX Korea, saw only ships built by the company.
Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu disclosed on Adom Fm’s Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday that, they never saw buildings constructed by STX Korea.
The Select Committee went on a working visit to Abu Dhabi to verify housing projects undertaken by STX Korea after the Ghana government entered into agreements with the company to give a sovereign guarantee to the company.
However, the Minority Leader insisted that the committee did not do that but saw only ships built by STX Korea.
The minority leader is reported to have showered praises on the STX Korea Housing project and gave his endorsement that the company was capable of constructing the 30,000 housing units.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu who is also the MP for Suame in the Ashanti region argued that the committee could not travel to China where STX Korea is said to have undertaken some housing projects due to heavy rains. He said they then decided to tour Abu Dhabi where the company had built ships.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mensah Bonsu has commended the NDC MP for Adentan, Kwadwo Adu Asare for his call for the abrogation of the deal with STX Korea.
Mr. Adu Asare is calling for the immediate abrogation of the $1.5 billion conflict-ridden STX Housing deal. He believes the time had come for the deal to be entirely abrogated, adding that the Mills-led NDC government could end up being badly embarrassed by the growing boardroom crisis at STX Engineering and Construction Limited, Ghana, who are locked up in what appears a bitter managerial power play.
Kwadwo Adu Asare explained on Adom FM that the boardroom wrangling in the STX Korea Housing project and the continuous delay of the commencement of the deal, is his reason for calling for the abrogation.
Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa in the Central region, Paul Collins Appiah Ofori has also commended the Adetan MP for his boldness saying, he feels vindicated by the turn of events since he spoke against the deal from the onset.
However, the Majority Leader, Cletus Avorka disagreed with his colleague, describing his call as unfortunate and untimely.
