A 26 year-old driver, said to be a member of a car-snatching syndicate in Kumasi is to spend 110 years in jail after he was found guilty of robbery in two separate incidents.
William Oppong of Kotei near Kumasi pleaded guilty to the charges in two courts which heard his cases and subsequently received 60 years and 50 years respectively.
He was convicted and sentenced to 50 years imprisonment in the first case with an accomplice, Victor Owusu, for seizing, at gun point, a Toyota Rav 4 vehicle from its owner at Dompoase in Kumasi.
The owner was washing the vehicle early morning when the robbers attacked him.
They later parked the vehicle at the residence of someone they described as a brother, who later led police to the house on hearing a radio announcement on the missing vehicle.
In the second incident, Justice Emmanuel Amo Yartey sentenced Oppong and his accomplices, some of whom are on the run, to 60 years jail term each.
They had snatched, also at gun point, a VW Passat from the owner at Kwadaso Nsuom on July 26.
The owner, a marketing officer at Ghana Nuts Company at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region, was attacked when he stopped to offer assistance to Oppong, who feigned distress and needed help.
An eye-witness later spotted the car and alerted police for the arrest of Oppong and his accomplices.
Police later retrieved two mobile phones belonging to the complainant from the gang.
