The 2012 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, has been described by leaked US diplomatic cables as arrogant and a person with poor organizational skills.Latest reports by the whistle blowing website, Wikileaks, alleged that in the run-up to the 2008 general elections, a profile on Nana Addo also revealed that he occasionally smoked marijuana.But his elections 2012 campaign manager, Boakye Agyarko, would not be engaged in the drugs debate until he thoroughly reads the wikileaks reports.“It will be irresponsible, not having read the report, to begin commenting on it,” he maintained in an interview with Joy News.He said the drug allegation has lost its news value, suggesting that it would be irreverent to add currency to it.“These reports of accusations of arrogance and drugs didn’t start today, so why must we rush [to pass comments on them]. It didn’t start today, infact it is no news,” he said.He cited the current Central Regional Minister, Madam Ama Benyiwa Doe, whom during her vetting, Mr Agyarko said, admitted that allegations of drugs she leveled against Nana Akufo-Addo were nothing but mere political talks.He said the US diplomatic cables revelation, “is not a source of worry” for the opposition New Patriotic Party, indicating that the party is rather concerned about issues such as the high, about “40% of students” who he claimed are unable to go back to school after schools had been reopened. He said the students’ issue should rather be an “emergency” issue to the government, and Ghanaians in general.Mr Agyarko was also unmoved by threats that the party’s political opponents might tap into the drug allegation and possibly blow it out of proportion, purely for political gains.He stressed that the drug issue was not an “emergency” to the NPP, and challenged the party’s detractors to “use it, we will respond.”
