Fulani herdsmen in parts of the Northern Region will soon be registered and issued with Identification Cards. Some district assemblies in the north have mooted the idea to check illegal activities of the Fulani herdsmen. The assemblies are seeking permission from national security and the Ghana Immigration Service to roll out the program. According to the District Chief Executive for Gonja East, Alhassan Mumuni most incidents of armed robbery and stealing of animals in the region are attributed to the fulanis in the area. He told Joy News if all the fulanis are registered and issued with ID Cards, residents will then take precautionary measures against Fulanis who do not have the cards. “What we shall be doing is to meet them with the immigration service," he said. He added the cards shall be exclusive to the Gonja East district. DCE for Gonja Central Salisu Be-Awuribe said his district is undertaking a similar exercise. "This we believe will also help in curbing the issues of the attendant problems caused by the Fulanis," he added.
