Government has warned that the law will deal ruthlessly with persons who attack or cast aspersions at persons with albinism. Interior Minister, Dr. Benjamin Kumbuor says it is also unlawful for anyone to ban such persons from any community in Ghana. He was commenting on reports about the deliberate killing of albinos in some African countries because of the huge market for their body parts for ritual purposes. Some communities are said to have also been declared no-go areas for albinos. But Dr. Kumbuor told Joy News there is no room for such discrimination and purposeful murders in Ghana. “All that we want to do is to give assurance to people that we do not think similar situation can take place in Ghana. “We will only caution the public, that should any form of manifest threat be made to them just because of the nature of their pigmentation or any other disability and because of that they are the target of criminal activities, they should report to the nearest police station; and we will deal with it with speed and dispatch.”
