The Ghana Statistical Service has disclosed that population data for district level will be released by the end of the year. According to Public Relations Officer David Kombat, what has accounted for the delay in releasing the data is due to the Local Government Ministry’s inability to clearly spell out district boundaries. Mr. Combat said the Statistical Service is working hard to ensure that by the close of the year, the data will be released to make the smooth takeoff of the biometric voter registration. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Monday, David Kombat noted that population data on regional level has already been released. Meanwhile, the Daily Dispatch newspaper in its Monday 26th September 2011 edition published that the 2012 elections was in danger as the electoral commission was delaying in compiling the biometric voters’ register. Ben Ephson noted that if the figures were not released on time it will affect the 2012 elections, adding that the EC could be sued if it failed to revise the constituencies.
