Former employees of the defunct Kumasi Shoe Factory have been given up to next Saturday to vacate its bungalows or be forcibly evicted.The ultimatum follows the recent take-over of the once state-owned property by the Ghana Armed Forces.The occupants and their families of over 200 people want President Mills to intervene whilst they take legal steps to restrain the military from carrying out the ejection.They say though the Defence Industry Holding Company has not given them written notices, officials had told them they are squatters who do not deserve any special treatment.Luv FM’s Elton John Brobbey reported the former employees have been living in the 35 bungalows for the past four decades but have now been given an ultimatum to vacate the premises.One resident told Elton, military officers were applying brute force and intimidation instead of negotiating with them.The military have insisted the tenants are squatters who have for the period of occupation paid no rent to the state and cannot be expecting any dialogue with them.
