An official of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Robert Coleman, has blamed Ghanaians for contributing immensely to the Tuesday night floods that killed nine and destroyed properties across the country. According to him, Zoomlion had done a lot of work trying to rid the city of filth but complained that Ghanaians were not complementing the company’s efforts. The nation’s capital, Accra, came to a standstill Wednesday morning after torrential rains the previous night caused the Odaw river to overflow its banks, making the roads at Kwame Nkrumah Circle impassable. Speaking to Joy News Thursday, Mr Coleman said Ghanaians had been irresponsible and showed total disregard for the sanity of the environment, thus, damping refuse at unauthorized places which end up choking drainage systems. He said Zoomlion was organising a clean-up exercise to clean various parts of the capital that were hit by the floods and cautioned the situation could worsen if people do not change their attitude toward the environment.
