The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast, Ebo Barton Oduro is blaming the increasing rate of teenage pregnancies in the Central region on parental neglect. He also says many of these victims are often left to their fate, making them more vulnerable. Mr. Barton Oduro who is also the Deputy Attorney General has therefore teamed up with students of the University of Cape Coast to sensitize parents, especially those in fishing communities, on the need to pay more attention to their children. In an interview with Joy News’ Central regional Correspondent, Richard Kwadjo Nyarko, the deputy Attorney General said, the fact that students drop out of school should not be an excuse for the increasing rate of teenage pregnancy. He said parents can enroll their children into vocational training centres in the communities to learn trades that can be beneficial to them. He said the phenomenon is “real and should not be swept under the carpet”. He therefore called on all concerned citizens to help turn the situation around.
