MTN Ghana has expressed its heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families of the two riggers who were killed by a collapsed MTN mast at Mpohor in the Western Region days ago. A statement from MTN Ghana quoted Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana, Cynthia Lumor as saying “this is a great loss and we are in deep shock - our heartfelt sympathy goes to the bereaved families.” The statement said it was with sadness that MTN Ghana confirmed that an accident resulting in the loss of human lives occurred during the decommissioning of one of its masts in the Mpohor Wassa District in the Western Region. Two riggers, Paul Opari and Solomon Gabby, employed by subcontractors working for RPS Engineering Services were killed by a collasing MTN mast on Monday. The two were part of a team of six employed to decommission a low capacity MTN mast which had been replaced by a high capacity one to improve service quality in the area. MTN said the decommissioning of the mast was being done by RPS Engineering Services, a reputable Ghanaian engineering company with several years of professional experience in the industry. “RPS has confirmed all the required safety measures were in place at the time of the accident,” the statement said, adding that a formal investigation was being conducted. The statement said MTN wanted to assure the people of Mpohor and the general public that it was fully committed to investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident in order to avoid a recurrence.
