Tullow oil Ghana Limited has in collaboration with three other organizations constructed a 3 unit classroom for lower primary education for the people of Ayensudo in the Central Region.
For many years the children of Ayensudo were hurdled in a make-shift classroom that often exposed them to the vagaries of the weather and other elements that exposed them to danger.
According to David Lawrie, Regional business manager for equatorial Atlantic, Tullow’s Vision of supporting and providing integrated and effective education solutions recognizes the importance of infrastructure on learning.
The project which costs $100,000 was implemented by Sabre Trust, a British Non- governmental organization in partnership with ARUP (UK) which was responsible for the engineering and designing.
The structure has a capacity to seat 180-pupils in KG1, KG2, Nursery, a store room, office and attached toilet facility and is a useful; combination of Bamboo and local from the oil from the community.
David Lawrie says “Tullow is particularly pleased to hand over the project without being burdened to look back about the issue of maintenance because the local involvement from the onset has ensured the availability of knowledge to take care of that.
The Ayensudu community provided the land and supported the project through voluntary labour.
