GMA elects new executives

Members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) have gathered in the Ashanti region to elect new executives to run the affairs of the group for the next two-years. The election forms part of activities marking the 53rd Annual General Conference of the GMA ongoing in the regional capital Kumasi. It is on the theme: “Carnage on our roads: Impact on the health of the Nation Meanwhile, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has urged government to find lasting solution to problems confronting workers in the various sectors of the economy. Policies and structures, he said, should be reviewed in efforts to resolve problems with salaries. Describing the recent strike by doctors as unfortunate, the Asantehene, who was speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference, stated that the migration of doctors onto the Single Spine Salary Structure has caused the nation a great deal. The National Labour Commission (NLC) is meanwhile expected to give its ruling next week on differences in negotiations between the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Ghana Medical Association as far as doctors’ migration on the new pay policy is concerned.
