The Black Stars have been given a lifeline in their bid to reach the 2018 FIFA World Cup by Uganda.
The Cranes produced a fine performance to overcome Egypt 1-0 in Kampala – a result that Ghana must build on to qualify for the global showpiece.
Emmanuel Okwi grabbed the only goal of the game for Uganda. The Tanzania-based striker controlled the ball very well, before beating the 44-year-old shot-stopper with a powerful low shot to hand Uganda a well-deserved 1-0 lead.
How Ghana can qualify
The win sees Uganda in pole position as they have moved to the top of Group E with 7 points, while Egypt have dropped to second with six points.
Ghana, with a game in hand against Congo remain third, but Appiah’s men will move within four points of the summit with victory on Friday.
The next round of matches will be played next week with Egypt playing host to Uganda and Ghana away to Congo. Black Stars will be seeking victory and pray Egypt are held by the Cranes.
If that happen, the table would read Uganda 8 points, Egypt 7 points, Ghana 7 points and Congo without a point with two games remaining.
And Six points will seal the Black Stars spot in Russia.
