The Half Assini District Magistrate Court on Thursday remanded two Ivoirians into prison custody for stealing a vehicle in Cote d’Ivoire and bringing it to Ghana.
Traole Ibrahim, mechanic and Yakini Bukari, a businessman, both from Abidjan-Koumassi, in Cote d’Ivoire, pleaded not guilty and the Court presided over by Mr Hans Kofi Kpogo ordered them to re-appear on Dec. 8, 2011.
Prosecuting, Police chief Inspector Paul Anaman, said the complainant in the case was Mr George Beterby, a car dealer in Abidjan.
He said following the political disturbances in Cote d’Ivoire, Mr Beterby locked his garage and sort refuge in Half Assini in Ghana.
The prosecution said when Mr Beterby went back to Abidjan sometime in April this year, he found out that all the fourteen 4x4 double-decker rental vehicles had been stolen.
Chief Inspector Anaman said on October 30, 2011 at about 1600 hours, Mr Beterby’s driver whose name was given as only Kofi, who happened to be at Elubo, saw Ibrahim driving one of the vehicles.
He said Kofi made a report to the Elubo Police which quickly arrested Ibrahim and impounded the vehicle.
According to the prosecution, the vehicle was later escorted to the Half Assini District Police headquarters for further investigation.
Chief Inspector Anaman said Ibrahim in his caution statement mentioned Yakini as the one who gave him the vehicle.
The prosecution said Yakini was subsequently arrested a week later when he visited Elubo.
