The Constitution Review Commission (CRC) is cautioning against unncessary speculation about the content of its final report to the President.
In statement issued today and signed by chairman Prof (Emeritus) Albert Kodzo Fiadzo the commission called "on the people of Ghana to await the presentation of the final report to His Excellency the President, as soon as practicable."
The statement follows a Daily Graphic publication that the commission's final report recommends "that the presidential and parliamentary elections be conducted in November in subsequent election years after 2012 to facilitate smooth transitional processes."
Here is the full statement
The attention of the Constitution Review Commission has been drawn to a story in the Tuesday, 29th November, 2011 edition of the ‘Daily Graphic’ with the caption ‘HOLD ELECTIONS IN NOVEMBER - CRC FINAL REPORT RECOMMENDS’ and the Editorial thereon.
While thanking the ‘Daily Graphic’ and all for the high interest in the work of the Commission, it must be pointed out emphatically that the full report of the Commission will be presented to His Excellency, the President, as stipulated in Article 280 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, as soon as arrangements are finalised.
It is the clear intention of the Commission that the full contents of its report will be shared with the people of Ghana in its entirety. The Commission also hopes and expects that a full and dispassionate national discourse may be conducted on its wide-ranging recommendations as a way of deepening national cohesion and consensus on the numerous issues placed before it.
The Commission believes that the nation will benefit from an honest and fair consideration of the report rather than dissipate its energies on speculations at this stage.
The Commission therefore calls on the people of Ghana to await the presentation of the Final Report to His Excellency the President, as soon as practicable.
