Attorney General Martin Amidu is expected to present a report explaining the state’s decision to pay a controversial judgment debt to NDC stalwart and businessman, Alfred Woyome.Mr Woyome was paid 42 million cedis of judgment debt after he won a case against the state.He sued the state for abrogating a contract to re-build the Kumasi and Accra Sports stadia for CAN 2008.The court awarded Mr. Woyome GHS42 million in compensation. But NPP’s firebrand Kennedy Agyepong has accused him of robbing the state.President Mills has called for a detailed report on the case. Deputy Attorney General, Ebo Barton Oduro told Joy News the state did not pursue the matter because it was bad one.He said a contract was awarded by the previous government to Wayome and his partners but later terminated the contract after he had done some work for which he had to be paid.“What kind of debate are you going to mount. Is it every case that has to be defended”? he asked.Mr Barton Oduro said not filing defence saved the country some money because “instead of 4 – 5 per cent interest, he (Wayome) took two per cent interest.”The Deputy A-G said the criticisms leveled against the former A-G for failing for to challenge Mr Wayome’s claims in court were unfair.
