The fate of the Bui hydroelectric power project hangs in a balance following a delay in the release of funds by donor agencies. Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Power Authority, Jabesh Amissah Arthur, has expressed fears this may affect the 2013 completion date for the third major dam in the country after Akosombo and Kpong dams.
Mr. Amissah Arthur told Joy News foreign financiers’ of the project are reluctant to release funds due to an unsolved administrative lapse on the part of the country.
He said there are problems with funds even though the money is still available to be accessed.
“The loans are available but there are problems with the disbursement procedures… efforts are being made to resolve the administrative bottlenecks.”
He said the implementation of the project is still ongoing but they are still waiting for the flood waters to recede for full scale work to begin.
“The main dam is progressing well. We are right now about 90 percent complete on the main damn itself. The focus now will shift to the power house and the installation of the equipment as well as the construction of the transmission lines,” Mr Amissah Arthur explained.
