The District Chief Executive for Gushiegu in the Northern Region, Alhaji Fuseini, is appealing to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to assist victims of the Kokomba clashes over the weekend with relief items.
Scores of people have been displaced after Kokombas in two communities clashed over cattle and properties left behind by the escaping Fulanis.
Thirteen Fulanis were killed with several others injured by the Kokombas in a dawn attack a fortnight ago.
The reason for the attack is yet not known but hundreds of the Fulanis fled the area leaving behind the properties and cattle.
Over the weekend the Kokombas turned their rage on each other, fighting for control and ownership of the properties left behind by the Fulanis.
Six houses were reported to have been torched but the extent of damage and casualty cannot immediately be ascertained.
The Northern Region Police Commander ACP George Tuffuor told Joy News calm has returned to the area.
“The situation is normal” he said, adding they are conducting investigations before arrests can be made.
Alhaji Fuseini, the DCE said the clashes have left many people homeless.
He appealed to NADMO to come to their aid by providing food and shelter for the people.
“We are now trying to resettle them. We are trying to arrest the humanitarian situation first. It [clash] has left a lot of children and women homeless; there is no food, no water, nothing."
He said the regional NADMO came in with blankets but no food and called on the National NADMO officials to assist.
