Car owners have been advised to park their cars at home and join commercial and public transport to ease the screaming traffic situation in the city.
This, the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit director, ACP Awuni Angwubutoge, believes is one of several measures to mitigate the effects of the depressing traffic situation in the city.
Accra has been inflicted with a serious traffic situation with both drivers and passengers reeling in anger and frustration everyday.
Joy News reporters who monitored the traffic situation in parts of the country reported of near chaotic situations on the city’s main roads.
Anni Osabutey who was at the Cantonment Police Station said the vehicles were lined up “bumper-to-bumper” and moving at a snail pace.
Anna Agyapong had to continue her journey on foot to the Nima police station from ATTC school because traffic was not moving at all.
The situation, she observed was frustrating and annoying with a few yells here and there by one driver or another.
In an interview with Joy News ACP Awuni Angwubutoge said the police is doing all it can to mitigate the full effects of the traffic situation.
According to him, he has deployed at least two police men at all traffic intersections to direct traffic and ease the situation a bit to road users.
Whilst admitting that the Christmas season brings with it a terrible traffic situation, he said, everybody wants to be seen driving his own car and advised Ghanaians to patronize public and commercial transport.
