Spokeperson of Buipewura, Abdullai Jinapor has served notice that anyone who stands in the way of the Buipewura from undertaking his duties as the traditional leader of the area, will be dragged to court for contempt. This follows a ruling by the Appeals Court in Kumasi dismissing a writ filed by the Paramount Chief of Gonja, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Borisa against the Buipewura for continuously holding himself out as chief of Buipe. In January, the National House of Chiefs exonerated the Buipewura after he was de-skinned and dragged to court for gross insubordination and disrespect to the Overlord of Gonja and the other chiefs. The Yagbonwura then followed it up with an appeal which also fell through. But his spokesperson and Registrar of the Gonja Traditional Council, Daniel Fiibu, told Joy News on Thursday that the Yagbonwura has no intention of letting the matter rest. He said the paramount chief is surprised at the outcome of the appeal. According to Mr. Fiibu, the Yagbonwura says “once he has already installed a new Buipewura, it is a taboo to remove the new Buipewura when he has done nothing wrong and give it back to the former one (Abdulai Jinapor). Once he has installed him, the whole Gonja will maintain him until he dies, unless he gets all his paramount chiefs' advice.” But Dr. Ahmed Jinapor who speaks for the Buipewura said he was disappointed in the comments of Mr Fiibu and warned that: “If the Yagbonwura attempts… to more or less flout the law, I can tell you for a fact and you can put me on record that the Yagbonwura will be dragged to court for contempt.” Speaking on Joy FM to react to Mr Fiibu's comments, he said the Buipewura by tradition, must perform certain rights at the market and the ritual will take place on Monday, 26 December, 2011, adding it will go ahead as planned despite information treaching them that the Yagbonwura is not happy about it. “It is being alleged that the Yagbonwura is marshalliong forces to come and disrupt this ritual, and we are telling the Yagbonwura that we believe in peace. We are ready to defend ourselves, but if he attempts to do anything untoward, then we will be prepared to take him on, so at the end of the day we are calling for peace,” Dr. Jinapor cautioned. “We don’t want any war, we don’t want any trouble. The law has spoken and the Yagbonwura for now has to understand that we live within the framework of the rule of law. We are ready to work with him, we respect him... and we expect him to respect the Buipewura.” He said the Yagbonwura took the matter to court because he believes in the rule of law and that he must adhere to the ruling of the court even if he does not agree to it.
