The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is taking steps to address public concerns about alleged extortion by some hospital staff and other unscrupulous persons.
Management says it has received persistent complaints of authorized persons collecting money illegally from patients and relatives.
Officials have placed notices at all revenue collection and other strategic points, asking clients to pay approved fees only to designated personnel, and also insist on receipts.
Public Relations Officer, Kwame Frimpong, tells Nhyira Fm the move, aimed at protecting patrons is already yielding positive results.
“We’ve had some information in the past that some of the lift operators attempt to extort money from some of the patients,” he said.
But one challenge faced by management of Komfo Anokye in tackling the problem is failure of patients to come forward to management to report those staff involved in the extortion.
So this is done as a stop-gap to avert such situations, he said.
“Management was compelled to paste those posters on various lifts and also at other vantage points to caution members of the public against paying any unathorised money,’’ Mr. Frimpong explained.
“Every patient can access the desk; with regards to quality of service, with regards to collection of money, conduct of any member of staff can lodge a complaint or make enquiries. It is all part of measures that management is adopting to protect interest of patients”,
Mr. Frimpong encouraged the public to report any misconduct of staff to management for appropriate action.
