Adom News has gathered that the two Nigerian women who have been arrested for trafficking six girls from Nigeria to Ghana to engage in prostitution are being transferred to Nigeria to be prosecuted there.Sources close to the CID Unit of the Ghana Police Service told Adom News that, though the suspects could have been tried here in Ghana, punishment for human trafficking in Nigeria is higher compared to what Ghana’s Criminal Code recommends.Ghana’s Criminal Code gives a minimum of only five years for Human Trafficking.Besides that, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the CID says it has arrangements with its Nigerian counterpart, the National Agency for Prohibition Trafficking Persons (NAPTIP) under which suspects are exchanged especially in the situation where both the suspects and victims are all Nigerians or Ghanaians.The suspects, Eunice Ayegidi (48) and Esther Francis (33) will be handed over to the (NAPTIP) which deals with Human trafficking cases when they are sent to Nigeria.Adom News also learnt that the West African Network (WANs-Nigeria) will help in the reintegration of the victims back into society when they are sent back to Nigeria.Six Nigerian girls aged between 19 and 23 years were trafficked from Nigeria to Prampram under the pretext of securing jobs for them in a hairdressing salon but they ended up in prostitution before the Police rescued them on January 1 upon a tip off.The third suspect, Victor Tetteh Koody (a Ghanaian) who accommodated the victims in his unregistered brothel, will however face prosecution in Ghana.Earlier on Wednesday, the Director of Anti-Human-Trafficking Unit at the Criminal Investigations Department, Supt. Patience Quaye told Adom News that, the victims will be the witnesses in the case since they are ready to appear before the law courts.
