Former Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare has bemoaned the politicization of health delivery issues in the country.
He regretted instances where services of specialists are terminated for political reason.
Dr. Nsiah Asare said this in an interview on Adom Fm’s Dwaso Nsem on Friday, following the death of five patients at KATH due to malfunctioning life support equipment at the Intensive Care Unit.
Dr. Nsiah Asare who is also a Surgeon said since he was relieved from office in 2009 he has being at home doing nothing.
“I’m at home now, just listening to radio, but no one is calling for my help at the hospital, health issues should not be politicized,” Dr. Nsiah Asare said.
He had suggested to the CEO of KATH in a telephone interview on Adom Fm that, he was ready to help resolve challenges inhibiting the operations at the hospital.
Dr. Nsiah Asare recalled a situation where some hospital staff were queried for assisting him to perform surgery for a friend’s mother at a time doctors at the hospital had gone on strike.
Dr. Nsiah Asare claimed the current CEO of the hospital, Prof Ohene Adjei questioned why he (Nsiah Asare) should be allowed to come to the hospital and perform surgery.
“I went to the hospital to save a life, but this was misconstrued,” he remarked.
The Surgeon cited former CEO at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng who was allegedly relieved of his post due to politics.
Dr. Nsiah Asare however vowed not to sit for certain individuals to destroy the country’s health system.
Meanwhile, Chief executive for KATH Prof. Ohene Adjei has told Adom Fm that the hospital is doing everything possible to ensure that the life support equipment are repaired to enable the facility operate at full strength.
He also maintained that the services of his predecessor were not necessarily needed to run the facility. He stated that he would go to the government for assistance if there should be the need but not Dr. Nsiah Asare.
