Two dialysis machines acquired for at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital are lying idle three years after they were procured.
German firm Gertech Technology is responsible for installing the equipment, but it is unclear why this has not been done.
The revelation was made to Health Minister, Joseph Yieleh Chireh, during a fact-finding visit to the hospital.
His tour was prompted by reports of equipment break-down at the Intensive Care Unit resulting in six deaths and it follows an under-cover investigation by Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah.
Mr. Yileh Chireh told journalists he was shocked to hear, for the first time, the dialysis machines had not been installed.
He said his meeting with Gertech officials and management of the hospital was meant to define timelines for restoring broken-down equipment.
It also indicated that the Ministry had no intention to abrogate a five-year maintenance contract with the German company as suggested by some hospital officials.
