Gorjiors International in partnership with Israel Embassy is taking the initiative in ending Obstetric Fistula with a musical and fashion event dubbed ‘The Diplomatx Runway’ on October 30.
The event, which will take place at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast in Accra will see a diplomatic grandeur charity ball which seeks to raise funds to tackle the condition.
Obstetric fistula is one of the most serious and tragic childbirth injuries. It is a hole between the birth canal and bladder or rectum caused by prolonged, obstructed labour, without access to timely, high-quality medical treatment.
It leaves women leaking urine, faeces or both, and often leads to chronic medical problems, depression, social isolation and deepening poverty.
Last year’s event saw a 15-year-old girl treated of the most complicated fistula challenge through funds raised on the Diplomatx Runway platform.
She is now back in school enjoying all the privileges needed for a young girl child.
Started in 2015 at the residence of Pavelyn Tendai Musaka, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps’, said the event has made substantial gains over the years.
Last year’s event was hosted by Claudia Turbay, Ambassador of Colombia in Collaboration with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Gorjiors International is committed and continues to be at the forefront of bringing an end to the Fistula challenge by year 2020, the organisers said.
C.E.O of Gorjiors international, Suzain Manassian Dodoo is optimistic "this year’s event will add greater potential in the fashion and business industry.
"We have music from Steve Bedi, the ace saxophonist, fashion show from the renowned fashion designer Royal Dennis from Ghana and fashion designer Betty Eldad from Israel.”
The primary objective of the event is to honour national and international designers who employ ethical practices in their design and manufacturing processes.
It is also to create and sustain economic opportunity and to provide awareness about how fashion, textiles, and design which can be used to eradicate women health related issues.
