The President John Evans Atta Mills is seeking collaboration with workers to enable his government mitigate the hardship being endured by Ghanaians in the wake of the recent increase in petroleum products.Addressing the leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) who called on him at the Castle Thursday, President Mills remarked: “By identifying these problems, we are surely on our way to helping solve them.”He said the ruling government, being a social democratic one sees and approaches issues which get to it differently from what others do, saying his government is poised to make life better for Ghanaians.“I hope that we can work with you closely and ensure that we bring your problems to a lesser level so that we will have the necessary peace and an ideal atmosphere within which to take care of our children?”The Ghana National Association of Teachers had earlier demanded the payment of a ten percent allowance on all salaries of workers to cushion them from the hardships brought about by the recent increase in fuel prices.Acting GNAT President, Samuel Alobuia also called for the speedy passage of the bill on tax threshold into law.“We are also of the opinion that a downward review of taxes on petroleum will help and as a way of raking in more money the tax net could be widened to include most workers in the informal sector.”
