The General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensah Otabil, has said it is critical for leaders in the country to draw lessons from the history and culture of the African continent to effectively pursue the country’s development agenda.
Pastor Otabil dispelled the notion that there is nothing good about the African continent that could trigger the desired advancement.
He made these remarks at the National Convocation of the Springboard 2012 Roadshow themed: “Promoting Excellence through Innovation and Technology” at the Trade Fair Centre, La-Accra Saturday.
Recounting some of milestones chalked by the continent, Pastor Otabil noted that, “as far as 1327, we had a university in Africa in Timbuktu it actually had three campuses and was treasured. At a point it had student population between 15,000 to 25,000 people attending university so now when we find that currently we cannot have these numbers in universities we have to start thinking about what we used to do in 1327 AD.”
He again recounted that, “the kente cloth which all of us are aware of was introduced in the 17th century so [now we] compare 1600s we are weaving sophisticated kente cloth and 2012 textile industries are collapsing that is the challenge for us something we have to really grapple with.”
The Springboard Roadshow is the brain child of Legacy and Legacy Board and it is held at the beginning of every year.
It brings together influential personalities for a stimulating discussion on topical corporate issues and career decisions aimed at motivating people, especially the youth in their chosen careers.
