The Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO) says it has suspended its investigations into the judgment debt payment saga pending the outcome of a suit brought against it.
Earlier this week, lawyers for businessman Alfred Woyome sought an injunction to stop EOCO from going any further with the probe, questioning its mandate to investigate the judgment of a court.
Lawyers for NPP officials who have declined to honor EOCO’s invitations to assist in investigations have also filed a suit, arguing the state body’s investigations are prejudicial.
Executive Director of EOCO, Mordey Akpadzi told Joy News’ Araba Coomson the suspension will not impede their efforts at producing a final report.
That final report, he said, will encapsulate all the exhibits and pieces of evidence based on which the interim report was prepared
He said the suspension is out EOCO’s respect for the laws of the land.
Meanwhile Attorney General Ben Kumbuor is today expected to present to President Mills his advice on the action government should take on the matter.
Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa disclosed this on Accra-based Radio Gold this morning.
