A group calling itself the Free Woyome Campaign Movement has demanded the immediate release of businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome.
He has been in custody at the Police CID headquarters since his arrest last Friday for roles he played in the payment of the controversial GHS58 million judgment debt.
But members of the ‘Free Woyome Campaign Movement’ say the arrest and detention of the businessman, who is also a financier of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), was unfair.
Its leader, David Tamakloe told Joy News Mr Woyome’s rights were being violated by his continuous detention.
Lawyers for the businessman are, however, making frantic attempts to secure bail for him.
A special aid to Mr Woyome, Kwame Tawia, said in an interview with Joy News Sunday that his boss could not per law be held beyond 48 hours and therefore vowed that all would be done to ensure his release today.
The Chief State Attorney Samuel Neequaye-Tetteh who was also indicted in the report on the Woyome judgment debt scandal by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) – was arrested Saturday night as he tried to leave the country.
He has become the second person to be arrested in connection with the judgment debt scandal.
