The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has called off its planned mass protests scheduled for Thursday. The decision follows a 20 per cent reduction of the recent increment in the prices of petrol, diesel, and Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), announced by the government last Friday.A statement signed by TUC Secretary General, Mr Kofi Asamoah, promised that the Congress would continue to pursue negotiations for the 2012 national daily minimum wage and the review of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSS), as part of efforts to mitigate the effects of the high cost of living on workers and their families. It also promised workers that the leadership of the TUC would continue to do whatever was necessary to protect the interest of workers and the general public, in particular, the poor and vulnerable. The statement thanked all workers for their support in the struggle against the removal of subsides on petroleum products.
