The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana, CLOGSAG, is embarking on a nationwide strike after failure of government to migrate all members unto the single spine salary structure.An ultimatum they gave government two weeks ago to address their concerns about their migration of all members onto the new pay policy expires Thursday.The northern regional secretary of CLOGSAG, Ali Anafo tells Joy News they have instructed all members not to work until their concerns are addressed.“It is a nationwide strike, we want to put pressure on government to listen to us because we have genuine concerns and we will continue on the sit down strike until government respond to our concerns. This is a matter of life.”He said so far not all CLOGSAG members have been migrated onto the new pay policy. Even those who have been migrated, he said, have some distortions in their salaries.He also noted that “There was an understanding that after the migration there would be some allowance that would be given to CLOGSAG members as it was given to other public sector institutions to cushion us so that it will mitigate the negative effect of the migrations.“As I speak, since September up till now nothing has been done about it, all efforts to get Fair Wages Commission to the table to solve this issue have proven futile.”“It is a nationwide strike, we want to put pressure on government to listen to us because we have genuine concern and we will continue on the sit down strike until government respond to our concerns. This is a matter of life.”Meanwhile, the leadership of CLOGSAG and government representatives were Thursday evening engaged in a crucial meeting to solve the problem.Nana Opoku Acheampong, Communication Specialist at the Employment Ministry, told Joy News technical issues were being ironed out by representatives of civil service, CLOSAG, Ministry of Finance, FWSC and the Employment Ministry.He was hopeful there would be an amicable resolution of the impasse by Friday, noting “a lot of headways are being made”.
